PROJECT  2

image-removebg-preview (8)_edited.png

For Project 2 , I'm allowed to explore a hypothetical tropical environment, considering the type (e.g., animal habitat, mangrove swamp) and unique characteristics (e.g., muddy, hilly). The project propose exploration methods like elevated levels or floating structures. They conduct in-depth research on architectural principles, materials' impact on spatial crafting, and tactile and tectonic aspects. The design platform must have a minimum of 70% dry construction, with optional wet construction up to 30%. It should include 30% fully enclosed space with entry points and fenestration, allowing for a comprehensive exploration of the environment and architectural concepts.

Part I : Design Process Sketch Journal + Study Models

VENTURE FINAL MODEL (1).jpg

We started off choosing a site which was a muddy mangrove area , after discussing our experience with the sites among the members we listed down some memorable points of impression where we would be able to take advantage and full maximized it . Next we proceed to do some precedent study for construction & design intentions pointers. We then come out a few sketches where we would be able to explore on .

We decided that creating a journey to our contemplating spaces would be a good idea as users get to reflect along the journey .

Part 2 : Finalize Boards + Models

We then have the concept of bringing the users going through the 4 stages of mangroves focusing on the journey path itself where users started off at a floating platform then they are guide through the mangrove by the bridge pathway , Through the 4 different stages of mangrove, Users be able to experience the growth of mangrove tree through the height oz the site from seaward zone to Terrestrial zone, users be able to reflect and contempt through the enlightenment of different perspective provided by the mangroves tree. Lastly arriving at the pavilion allowing users 2 path either of shutting down in a private sealing mangrove area or reaching further up , levitating to the roof space allowing a bird eye view of the journey reflected , leading to contemplating in a bigger picture.

: Reflection :

Upon experiencing project 2 , I am struck by the exciting and immersive journey that lies ahead. The notion of exploring a hypothetical tropical environment sparks my curiosity and fuels my imagination. The freedom to choose the type of environment, whether it be an animal natural habitat, mangrove swamp, river mouth, foothill, waterfall, or seaside, allows for a personalized exploration experience.

Considering the unique characteristics of the environment, such as being muddy, hilly, rocky, tree top, or sandy, opens up endless possibilities for creative design solutions. The prospect of exploring the environment through various approaches like elevated levels, multi-levels, floating structures, transparency, openness, or semi-openness adds a dynamic element to the design process.

Delving into in-depth research of architectural principles gathered from previous projects is a valuable opportunity for growth. It provides a chance to expand my understanding of the fundamental aspects of architecture and apply them to the context of a tropical environment. Additionally, exploring the types and effects of materials on architectural space empowers me to craft meaningful and impactful designs.

Understanding the tactile aspects of materials, such as texture and grain, and the tectonic aspects, such as assembly and construction, enhances my appreciation for the artistry and craftsmanship involved in creating architectural spaces. It encourages me to observe and discover the spatial qualities that arise from the careful selection and manipulation of materials.

The assignment's requirement of a platform design that balances dry and wet construction, as well as the incorporation of fully enclosed spaces with thoughtfully placed openings, challenges me to think holistically about the integration of architecture within the natural environment.

In summary, this assignment represents an exciting journey of exploration, research, and creative design. It provides opportunities for personal and professional growth as I delve deeper into the intricate relationship between architecture, tropical environments, and materials. I am eager to embark on this journey and see where it leads me, embracing the challenges and discoveries along the way. Through out this project, I have earned the Taylor Graduate Capabilities [TGC]  of life long learning , communication skills and social competencies .
