PROJECT 1
The project involves creating two standalone structures representing a romanticized Malay Kampung in Malaysia for an international indoor exhibition. It includes group tasks such as precedent studies, researching the Malay Kampung, crafting a narrative, exploring poetic spaces, and proposing two structures with physical models and video journeys.
As a team, we choose two distinct precedents related to traditional Malay architecture or cultural narratives.
Then we Conduct in-depth research on individual for each precedent, focusing on design elements, spatial qualities, and cultural significance.we then Analyze how these precedents effectively convey cultural themes and narratives. Finally, findings were Compile into a comprehensive report, highlighting key insights and lessons for the design process.
Next , we Collaboratively craft a compelling narrative that encapsulates the essence of a romanticized Malay Kampung. Ensuring the narrative has engaging elements that can be translated into spatial design. we create various poetic spaces within traditional Malay Kampung settings including Researching and understand the principles that contribute to the poetic quality of these spaces. Then Examine the characteristics of concentric and linear layouts.
Understand how each layout contributes to the narrative journey and user experience. At last we create the idea of telefon buruk & through the window, langsir of the kampung where gossips, stories happens.
: Reflection :
As a student engaged in the design process for the representation of a romanticized Malay Kampung, the journey was both enlightening and enriching. Task A, the individual precedent study, allowed me to delve deep into two distinct precedents, unlocking insights into the intricate details of traditional Malay architecture and cultural narratives. Analyzing how these precedents effectively conveyed cultural themes provided a solid foundation for the subsequent group tasks.
Task B, the group design process, began with a comprehensive research phase , unveiling the cultural, historical, and architectural aspects of Malay Kampung. Collaboratively crafting a captivating narrative not only fostered teamwork but also ensured that the essence of a romanticized Malay Kampung was captured. Identifying poetic spaces involved a nuanced exploration of spaces within traditional settings, teaching me to appreciate the subtleties that contribute to a sense of poetry in architecture.
Throughout the process, collaborative efforts were crucial. Regular team discussions, information sharing, and collective decision-making were integral to synthesizing individual findings. This interdisciplinary approach emphasized the importance of a holistic design perspective. Overall, the journey was a dynamic and immersive learning experience, shaping my understanding of cultural representation, narrative-driven design, and the nuanced artistry of creating poetic spatial environments.
