PROJECT  1

In this project, students will work in assigned tutorial groups to conduct site visits and analyze the physical and intangible qualities that define the site’s character. By engaging with site users, students will identify the community's needs. Based on this analysis, the groups will create a Neighbourhood Park Plan, which will serve as the foundation for Project 1C: Neighbourhood Learning Centre. This project establishes a thorough understanding of the context for subsequent projects.

: Reflection :

Working on Project 1A has been a truly eye-opening experience for our group. By diving into the site analysis, we were able to see firsthand how the physical and intangible aspects of a location come together to create its unique character. Our site visits allowed us to closely observe the landscape, existing structures, and how people interact with the space. This hands-on approach gave us a deeper appreciation of the nuances that shape a site.

Engaging with the community was one of the most rewarding parts of this project. Talking to the people who use the site every day gave us insights we could never have gained from books or lectures. Their input highlighted the real needs and desires of the community, reminding us that our designs should always put people first. It was a powerful reminder that architecture is not just about buildings but about the lives that unfold within and around them.

Working together as a group also taught us valuable lessons about teamwork. We learned the importance of effective communication, ensuring that everyone’s ideas were heard and considered. The process of collaborating, debating, and refining our ideas brought us closer as a team and pushed us to think more creatively and critically. Each of us brought different strengths to the table, and by pooling our talents, we were able to create a more comprehensive and thoughtful design.

Developing the Neighbourhood Park Plan was both challenging and exciting. It forced us to synthesize all our observations and community feedback into a cohesive design. Balancing environmental considerations with the needs of the community and our own aesthetic goals was a complex task, but it was incredibly rewarding to see our ideas take shape. This project laid the groundwork for our next steps in designing the Neighbourhood Learning Centre, giving us a solid foundation to build upon.

Overall, Project 1A has been a crucial part of our learning journey. It has helped us develop our analytical and design skills, and it has shown us the importance of working collaboratively and engaging with the community. This experience has not only enriched our academic understanding but also prepared us for our future careers, where we will continue to design spaces that serve and inspire people.
