PROJECT  2B

kd1b.png

In task Final 2B , We are required to manually prepare drawings before digitally converting them onto 2 to 4 A1 boards. Designing a Discovery Center for Kampung Morten, Malacca, the project emphasizes cultural diversity and history, requiring a two-story standalone building with 350-450 sqm floor area. We must choose between a concentric or linear space arrangement and incorporate two modifying elements of architecture. The design includes essential spaces like entrance, gallery, cafe, and offices. Design features, such as an entrance statement or waterfront design, should align with the site's spirit and consider universal design principles. Design development involves clear intention, reference to collected information, and in-depth studies on relevant subjects. Precedence studies, diagrams, models, and a main sectional drawing contribute to a poetic architecture, focusing on the flow of space and user experience.

For the discover center I choose the idea of converting kampung mortens into a historical 3 parts era time capsule discovery center .

KIn the heart of Melaka, where the whispers of ancient souls linger, lies Kampung Morten—a testament to time's enduring embrace. Encircled by the sinuous Malacca River, this cherished village stands as a resilient relic, a living heritage etched into the very fabric of Malaysia.

In the tapestry of history, Kampung Morten unveils itself, a spectral dance of footsteps echoing through the corridors of antiquity. Here, the Malay community breathes life into the timeworn streets, their stories woven into the very soil beneath their feet.

: Reflection :

Embarking on the design journey for Kampung Morten in the heart of Melaka was akin to stepping into a living canvas, where whispers of ancient souls echoed through time. This cherished village, embraced by the sinuous Malacca River, stood resilient—a testament to Malaysia's enduring heritage.

Delving into the tapestry of history, Kampung Morten unfolded like a spectral dance, each footstep echoing through corridors steeped in antiquity. The Malay community breathed life into timeworn streets, their narratives interwoven with the very soil beneath, creating a vibrant narrative that became the soul of this historical haven.

The design journey mirrored a metamorphosis, a delicate dance of preservation and evolution. Kampung Morten's quietude transformed into a stage where change pirouetted gracefully, entwined with the rhythmic pulse of urbanization. Navigating this delicate balance became a central theme, a reflection of the village's resilience amid the evolving landscape.

Each design decision became a brushstroke, painting the Discovery Center not just as a structure but as a vessel of cultural storytelling. Choosing between concentric and linear arrangements felt like orchestrating the village's symphony—each note a reflection of its essence. The incorporation of modifying elements echoed the adaptability woven into Kampung Morten's history.

Considerations of universal design principles became a commitment to inclusivity, ensuring the Discovery Center welcomed all, mirroring the village's embrace of diversity. The design process, inspired by the echoes of footsteps in history, unfolded like a narrative journey. Precedence studies and in-depth research were the compass, guiding the design intention towards a holistic representation of Kampung Morten's spirit.

The final design, much like the village itself, became a harmonious blend of past and present, with features like the waterfront design and entrance statement echoing the soulful whispers of the ancient village. The main sectional drawing encapsulated not just the physical structure but the flow of experience, mirroring the dynamic interplay between history and modernity.

In reflecting on this design journey, I find myself not just an architect but a storyteller, translating the cultural richness of Kampung Morten into a poetic architecture. Each stroke of the pen and every decision made was an ode to the resilient spirit of this living heritage, an endeavor to ensure that the whispers of ancient souls endure in the Discovery Center's embrace.
